Orca Diving

The Arctic doesn’t greet you gently. The air is sharp, sea cold, and every sound carries in the stillness. When the first dorsal fin breaks the surface beside the boat, you feel the power of an environment that plays by its own rules.

with whales
Each winter (November to February), Tromsø's fjords transform into a feeding ground for magnificent orcas and humpback whales, lured by massive herring schools. Witness orcas' intelligent hunting tactics—coordinated pods herding fish in dramatic displays—or humpbacks' acrobatic bubble-net feeding, where they create spiraling traps before lunging skyward.
These apex predators can reach up to 10 tons and 32 feet.
Good to know:
Success rates exceed 90% in peak season, with ethical guidelines ensuring minimal disturbance.

Itinerary
Day 1
At 10 we meet at the boat in Tromsø harbour. here you will meet your crew, and take a morning coffee before casting off lines and heading out to sea. The winds in the fjords make their own rules and dont follow the weather reports. They call Northern Norway the land of the headwinds. That being said, if the winds allow, we will raise the sails and make way for our first destination. On day 1 we will cover about 50 nauticle miles in order to get out into the fjords where the whales hang out. You will be served lunch mid day, and after our crew will give you a safety briefing and a lecture on the wales and marine life you might see. As evening approaches, we will dock up at a small harbour. Here we will put on our gear and do a test dive to make sure everybody feels comfortabel and knows what to expect for the coming day. After your test dive you will be served with dinner cooked by our professional chef, whilst the the onboard sauna heats up to use at your pleasure.
Day 2
On the morning of day two you will be med with a healthy breakfast and coffe before casting lines and making our way a few more nauticle miles into the area where the wales usually can be found. Once we start seeing activity, your instructor will get you kitted and ready with all the gear and you will be on standby untill we hopefully get a chance to stop the boat and get in the water. During the winter months the daylight hours are short, so our window for finding the whales and diving is not more han a few hours. Once the light fades and we can no longer dive, we will start moving towards our next overnight spot. On the way there we will eat lunch, then stop and hopefuly catch some fish for dinner. If the weather allows, we can put down anchor for the night instead of going into the dock. When evening comes, we will have a relaxing evening with some educational talks about the ocean and whales, whereafter we will eat dinner and if you like, take a cold plunge and sauna.
Day 3
Day 3 will be quite similar to the previous day. We will start the day with a healthy breakfast, whereafer we will aim to be at the whale grounds at first light. After a day of whale serching and diving, we will have lunch at drift before doing a sailing course and setting sail towards our next overnight spot. If everybody is up for it we might stop and try catch some halibut for dinner before dropping anchor in a calm bay. If the weather allows we will take the dingy into the beach and make a fire and talk about our experience of the trip to end of the day.
Day 4
We will set sail after breakfast on the 4th day. The trip will be about 30 nauticle miles and we aim to be back towards lunch time. As we make our way home, we will download all or fotage to a laptop and share it with you. At this point we hope to have taken you on an experience you will never forget.
