Our Story
A family, a boat, and a long road north.
Magnetic North Expeditions is hosted by the Ferreira family — Craig, Jytte and their children — who grew up between wild places and the work of caring for them.
Craig grew up on the coast of South Africa among sharks, whales and the people who studied them. Jytte arrived from Denmark with a different kind of cold in her bones — quiet winters, long shorelines, a culture that takes nature seriously.
Their children were raised on small boats and in field stations. Conservation wasn't a cause in the household; it was simply the texture of ordinary life.
Years later, after a number of careers and a number of unexpected turns, the family found themselves drawn north — to the long blue hours and the strange clarity of the Arctic. They bought a catamaran, rebuilt it for high latitudes, and began inviting small groups of guests aboard.
Magnetic North Expeditions is what grew out of that. It is, in the end, the same thing the family has always done: pay close attention to wild places, and share them with people who care.
